The Process

What's Included

Designing a roadmap to improvement:
Process Documentation.

All business is built around processes: a series of tasks with varying complexity, that one or more staff members complete over and over. When these processes work smoothly and efficiently, they provide the bedrock for providing value to customers. Without proper documentation of these vital processes, however, no analysis or improvement can be implemented to continue to refine towards greater efficiency. Process Documentation takes the difficult task of tracking down each step and building a clear process map off of your plate and provides a tool to ensure processes are running at their peak.

Do you know what you know? What you don't know?

It's a well-documented phenomenon: as you, or your organization, repeatedly performs one of its many processes, the execution changes form.  The first time is clumsy, inefficient, and laden with mistakes.  Perform the process enough times though, and it becomes second nature.  While performing a process in an unconscious competent manner, however, there exists an unspoken problem: without conscious thought, there is little room for analysis or improvement.  Complacency born of habit or routine invites MUDA, even if unintentionally.  Process Documentation is the solution, to highlight every step of a process and question whether it is critical, adds value, and contributes to the overall efficiency.  With a BMI expert, neutral and unbiased, to track down every step and build an accurate Process Documentation, your organization gets a clear picture of what it is doing, what it knows, what it doesn't know, and a tool to ask 'why?'

What's included

To best match your needs, BMI has 2 different Process Documentation packages: Design and Design, Analysis.

Once it is documented, then it can be improved.

Design

The Process Documentation Design package is the start of all process improvements.  The Design package includes 8 hours a month of dedicated BMI Process Documentation expert time, to thoroughly and precisely build a complete map of various processes within your organization.  Whether you dictate that the time be spent mapping several small processes or a few large ones, the BMI expert is at your command.  Upon mapping the process, you receive a full breakdown of the stakeholders involved, their roles, and the steps taken.  BMI's fresh eyes and neutrality lend substantially to making sure that no part of the process is glazed over, to provide the most in-depth breakdown possible, by constantly asking 'why?' or raising a red flag if the process does not make sense.

Ideal for organizations looking to document processes for training, evaluation and refinement, or to avoid the trap of familiarity.

Design, Analysis

Documenting a process is the first step to refining it, but bearing down and critically analyzing what the documentation actually says can be difficult.  Conflicting interests from stakeholders within the process, such as the employee responsible for the execution, may be reluctant to be truly analytical, for fear they will make more work for themselves.  Refinement, to the benefit of the organization and its goals, requires objectivity.  With the Process Documentation Design, Analysis package, processes are not only mapped thoroughly, they are analyzed by BMI business experts to point out inefficiencies, room for improvement, and MUDA.  The Design, Analysis package includes 16 hours a month of dedicated BMI Process Documentation expert time, to be allocated as you see fit, documenting or analyzing.

Ideal for organizations looking to not only have their processes documented but also desire expert evaluation and recommendations for improvement.

Without documentation of a process, and truly understanding what it entails, it is difficult - if not impossible - to properly assess where the greatest opportunities for improvement lie.  Our President reviews how to evaluate these opportunities and how to pursue the best ideas (supported by proper process documentation).
